FOR IT
This action remake from Martin Scorsese doesn't have "Oscar" written all over it, but how many films honestly do?
It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and is full of strong performances all across the board. A strong choice.
It scored noms from some of the major guilds, and it's been cited by critics as one of the year's best. Seems to be a near-lock.
AGAINST IT
AGAINST IT
AGAINST IT
While tautly directed and action-packed, it's not as "deep" as some of Scorsese's past mob efforts like "Goodfellas."
"Babel" certainly has its detractors, and haven't we seen the chopped-up storyline trick one time too many in the recent past?
Although this is a true toss-up year for Best Pic, "The Queen" is the one film of the five that seems completely out of the running.

FOR IT
The Academy clearly loves Clint, and chose to honor the better of his two WWII epics. Could this surprise inclusion mean a surprise win?
AGAINST IT
"Letters" was a surprise inclusion, but it didn't fare as well overall as some of the other nominees. Plus, Clint's won this twice.

FOR IT
With the PGA, SAG, and WGA awards already in the bag, it looks like the brightest of the five nominees may just eke ahead for the win.
AGAINST IT
There seems to be an abundance of darker movies this year clamoring for attention. Will this flick be able to stand out?
