didn't disappoint. "Sideways," "The Aviator," and "Million Dollar
Baby" will be duking it out for the win, with "The Aviator" out slightly
in front. Don't be surprised if Scorsese takes the Best Director
trophy but "Baby" wins here.

Mike Leigh, whose "Vera Drake" had mostly been forgotten save for
Imelda Staunton's lead performance, made the cut. No Zhang Yimou
for "Flying Daggers" or Michel Gondry for "Eternal Sunshine." And
happily it was Marc Forster ("Finding Neverland") that got the axe.

nomination for a lead performance in "Collateral." The biggest surprise
of the morning, however, was Alan Alda for "The Aviator." Barely a
word was mentioned about him for months, but now he might even win.
