COLLATERAL
FOR HIM
FOR HIM
FOR HIM
FOR HIM
FOR HIM
A long career
filled with
memorable
roles has
yielded no
Oscars thus
far.  With
"Baby," the
time is right to
honor him.
With a nearly
unanimous
vote from
critics, he was
positioned
early this
awards season
as the man to
whom Oscar
was coming.
This nom came
from nowhere
but it makes
perfect sense
-- Hollywood
legend, meaty
role, never
before been
Oscared.  He
could win.
He's probably
runner-up to
Thomas Haden
Church in
terms of "best
in show"
notices.  And
he gets the
best lines in
the movie.
Even before
"Ray" came
out, critics were
singing the
praises of Foxx
in this
well-liked
Michael Mann
crime drama.
It's possible.
AGAINST HIM
AGAINST HIM
AGAINST HIM
AGAINST HIM
AGAINST HIM
As Lauren
Bacall found
out in '96,
merely being a
well-respected
actor doesn't
automatically
yield an
"honorary"
Oscar.
He's facing stiff
competition
from Morgan
Freeman (an
unheralded
legend) and
Clive Owen
(the surprise
Golden Globe
winner).
He plays a
strong foe to
Howard Hughes
in the film, but
his screen time
is minimal
compared to
the other 4
nominees.
We'll see.
If this
performance is
so well-loved,
why didn't he
get a SAG nod?
 Why was the
screenplay left
out of Oscar
balloting?
Suspicious.
If this
performance
can be
classified as
"supporting"
we need to
re-think some
AMPAS rules.
Plus, he'll win
for "Ray."

DAVID CARRADINE, Kill Bill Vol. II
He probably just missed the shortlist.  I hope.

PETER SARSGAARD, Kinsey
No SAG nod spelled the end of this Oscar hopeful.

FREDDIE HIGHMORE, Finding Neverland
The Academy has rewarded children in the past.

JAMES GARNER, The Notebook
With only a SAG nod, how secure could he have been?

RODRIGO DE LA SERNA, The Motorcycle Diaries
Gael Garcia Bernal did't make it, so why would he?

PETER O'TOOLE, Troy
The movie just stunk too much.

JIM CARREY, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
He actually wasn't that bad, but there was lots of competition.
