THE 5 NOMINEES:
CINEMATOGRAPHY
WINNER
"Road to Perdition" wins
as predicted.  "Far From
Heaven" really deserved
this, but Hall's work was
nearly as impressive.
His son's acceptance
speech was also a nice
touch.

"Chicago" wins as
predicted.  How the
interwoven intricacies of
"The Hours" and the
battle at Helm's Deep in
"The Two Towers" were
overlooked is beyond me.

SCORE
THE 5 NOMINEES:
"Frida" wins over
prediction "Far From
Heaven."  Basically all of
the nominees in this
category were worthy
(expect perhaps the
forgettable "Road to
Perdition" score), but the
Academy shows once
again that it often gives
extreme long shots in this
category -- "The Red
Violin," "Life is Beautiful"
-- the unexpected win.

"Chicago" wins over
prediction "Gangs of New
York."  How are "Chicago's"
sets any more elaborate or
artistic than those of "Gangs"
or "The Two Towers"?
They aren't.  When this
award was handed out, it
looked like a complete
"Chicago" sweep...for a
split-second.

THE 5 NOMINEES:
WINNER
"Chicago" wins as
predicted.  Lots of
technical wins for the
musical -- and, of
course, the Big One --
but "The Pianist" came
out of the show the
bigger victor, taking
home 3 of the Big 8.

THE 3 NOMINEES:
WINNER
"The Two Towers" wins as predicted.
"Spider-Man" rightfully lost, as its FX looked
too fake and cartoony.  (Was it eligible in the
Best Animated Film category?)  George
Lucas, again, goes home without a single
trophy for his latest "Star Wars" debacle.

U2.  This was perhaps the
most welcome surprise of the
night.  If only he had been
there to rock the Kodak

Streisand when taking the
statue from her.  So, is
Eminem up for an Emmy or
Tony anytime soon?  He'll win
for sure!
